        REMINDER: Lunch balances with 10 negative charges will result in a cheese sandwich and a milk.     

        Basketball cheer tryouts this Tuesday October 24th at 330-530 & this Wednesday October 25th at 3:30-5:30 also. These would be held in the HS gym

       Schedule for this week: This week is P/T Conference week, therefore our schedule will be a bit different. Monday, October 23 - B-Day, Tuesday, October 24 - A-Day, Wednesday October 25 B-Day, Thursday, October 26 - A-Day. No School on Friday. 

        1st Round Football Playoffs:  Southwest Valley will host LeMars, Gehlen Catholic on Friday October 27th at 7pm.  Admission for students in grades K-12 and all adults is $6.  NO Activity or District Passes will be accepted.

        Robotics: Practice Tuesday 1-3pm for the early dismissal if you can make it.  Great job last weekend at the Villisca Meet making tons of progress, passing inspections and getting the bots to compete.  Next meet is Nov. 11th mark your calendar now.

        Wrestling Cheerleading Try-outs:  are Monday, October 23 from 5:30 - 6:30, Tuesday 5:30-6:30 in Ms. Dockers room. 

        Basketball Cheerleading try out sign up sheet is in the office. 

        FAFSA help session:  When:  October 25 (3-7 p.m. no appointment needed),  Where:  Creston-Southwestern Community College, WHO any senior that has not completed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) WHAT to Bring along:  Copy of your 2016 tax returns (parent and student) and W2 forms.  WHY: Because this is FREE help and the avenue to scholarships and grants. See Mrs. Meyers for more information.

        Winter Conditioning/Weight Room: will start Monday October 30th. See Coach Hults for more information. 

        Y-Teens Blood Drive:  Wednesday, October 25th from 8 to 2 pm at the Activity Center. Must be at least 16 years old and have parent permission and your ID. Pick up permission slips either in the office or see Mrs. Morales or Ms. Vanderhoof. If you need to make an appointment please see Mrs. Morales.

        SENIORS:  You are now able to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Here is a youtube video by Steve Irvin from ICAN that visits about completing your FAFSA and some important dates and materials:  Filing the FAFSA Steve Irvin is a great resource. 

ICAN Tip of the Week - October 19, 2017

        Tailgate meal: The booster club will have a soup tailgate for the playoff game on October 27. We will serve chili and potato soup.

        JUNIORS only:  The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Scholarship (up to $6500) is open for application. SWV school has one Herbert Hoover Uncommon student this year who received thousands of dollars in scholarship. See Mrs. Meyers for more information.  

        Y-teens when you do recycling, you need to empty the one in Tina's office and the one in the teaches' lounge too, please.  

        Picture Retakes are October 25th @ 8:00am @ the Corning Elementary. There are order forms in the office. If you are getting your pictures retaken, bring the originals with you. Your retakes will be the same package that you originally ordered.

        It's Haunted Timber Trail Time! Come to Lake Icaria Thursday, October 26th from 6:30 - 10:30pm to join the fun! 

        Y-teens Point opportunity. Decorate for Trick or Treat on Oct. 26th at Central Park. Be there at 5 pm. It did not take more than an hour last year, so I think it would be about the same. Sign-up sheet will be on our board.

        During seminar, if you are not in a meeting or getting help from a teacher, you are required to stay in your seminar room. The cafeteria is not approved as a place to do homework and hang out during seminar. The library is open and staffed during seminar and you are welcome to report there to have a place to work. Thank you for your cooperation.

        Any senior planning on ISU next year (posted by Mrs. Meyers):  The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at Iowa State University has an online scholarship application called FinAidScholar.  The FinAidScholar application is a single application for all scholarships administered through the OSFA. www.financialaid.iastate.edu (select freshman and then FinAidScholar) 

         ATTENTION STUDENTS -  IF you ride a moped pay close attention: Passengers are not allowed on mopeds. This is a state LAW. You can and may get ticketed.      

         FYI - The DOT has changed driving days for Adams County. The driving days are Tuesday mornings. To schedule driving times please call the courthouse at 641-322-3210. All students getting school permits have to drive with the DOT and live more that 1 mile from the school. You also need 2 forms from the school, a Certificate of Completion and an Affidavit For School Permit.
